The 2025 IPTO Innovation Challenge recognised up2metric's VR training solution with the top prize, awarded for both technical depth and real-world applicability.
The solution applies our VR Training product line to the energy sector: trainees enter a fully virtual replica of an operating environment, complete structured Quests built in our Unity-based authoring tool, and are automatically evaluated on their performance against defined objectives.
By moving high-risk and high-cost training scenarios into VR, organisations can train more people, more often, on environments that would otherwise be inaccessible, expensive to reproduce, or unsafe to disrupt.
The award reinforces our broader thesis: that immersive technology and computer vision are most valuable when they solve concrete operational problems, not when they are deployed for novelty.
Awards2024
WITSA Merit Winner, Digital Innovation Award.
The Bird Monitoring System, built for DIGISEC & GOCOM, is recognised internationally as a Merit Winner in the «Digital Innovation Award» category.
The World Innovation, Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) named DIGISEC & GOCOM Bird Monitoring System, built by up2metric, a Merit Winner in the Digital Innovation Award category for 2024.
The system uses custom real-time computer vision models to detect and track birds and bats around wind turbines, helping operators respect environmental obligations through informed deterrence and shut-down decisions, all visualised on a per-site operations dashboard.
WITSA's recognition is global and competitive, and we are proud to see Greek deep-tech recognised in this category.

3DforXR launches as an online service.
Our AI-based 3D asset generation moves from R&D into a public-facing online service. Photorealistic 3D from images, multiple views, or text prompts.
3DforXR began life inside the SERMAS EU open-call project as an AI-based 3D asset generator. With this launch it becomes a public-facing online service, available to teams who want photorealistic 3D models without specialist skills.
The service accepts single images, multiple views, or text prompts as input. Behind the scenes it combines several state-of-the-art models (Trellis, TripoSR, InstantMesh, plus our own NeRF pipeline) and post-processes results to be XR-ready, including mesh simplification, remeshing, and LOD generation.
The service is the foundation for our AI 3D Assets Generation product line. We are also bundling an integrated VR game and AR mobile app so teams can preview generated 3D models in real spaces.

SINCERE kicks off, BIM-based AR for heritage buildings.
We join the SINCERE EU consortium, building a mobile AR application that gives field teams on-site access to 3D, historical and live sensor data.
up2metric is a partner in the SINCERE EU project, focused on resilient and adaptive renovation toward net-zero carbon heritage buildings.
Our contribution is a BIM-based mobile AR application that gives field teams on-site access to accurate 3D models, historical records, and live sensor data, supporting informed restoration and maintenance decisions.
The accompanying web platform manages organisations, facilities, and inspection/maintenance/renovation tasks, and handles sensors monitoring. The work is also the foundation of our Building Management product line.
Research2023
Pipe Inspection Robot, first prototype.
Within the Laser4TWIN open-call project we ship the first prototype of an integrated pipe-inspection robot, fusing LiDAR with computer vision.
Within the Laser4TWIN open-call project, funded by PIMAP4SUSTAINABILITY, we delivered the first prototype of an advanced robot for pipeline inspection.
The platform integrates LiDAR, RGB cameras, and IMU sensors. On top of the hardware sits a full 3D vision stack: SLAM, camera-LiDAR calibration, and data fusion for pipeline 3D reconstruction, plus AI-based image obstacle detection for safe autonomous navigation.
The work demonstrates how our sensor integration and computer vision capabilities translate from research consortia into deployable industrial robotics.
Awards2022
1st prize at IEEE ACIR Competition for MapARAI.
Our AR mobile app for field-task management, built within the XR4DRAMA project, wins first prize at the 2022 IEEE ACIR competition.
MapARAI, the AR mobile app we built within the EU XR4DRAMA project, won the first prize at the 2022 IEEE ACIR (Applied Computational Intelligence and Robotics) competition.
The app combines AR field tools, 3D reconstruction via Structure-from-Motion and Multiple View Stereo, AI-based scene understanding, and remote-sensing data (open satellite multispectral + DEM) to support disaster management and media planning in the field.
The award validated our approach of fusing several research-grade computer vision techniques into a single mobile experience that works in real operating conditions.
Products2020
Mobile Mapping System released.
Release of our integrated mobile mapping platform, bringing together LiDAR, multiple cameras, IMU and GPS into one capture-ready system.
2020 marked the release of our integrated Mobile Mapping System, a platform we developed to capture high-fidelity 3D point clouds and imagery from a single moving rig.
The system tightly synchronises LiDAR, multiple RGB cameras, IMU and GPS, and produces calibrated, georeferenced point clouds ready for downstream mapping, inspection and 3D reconstruction workflows.
It is the platform that underpins our GeoInformatics practice and several follow-on projects, including the Pipe Inspection Robot.

up2metric joins Lefkippos Technology Park.
We move into the largest technology park of Athens, alongside fellow research-driven companies and labs.
In 2019, up2metric joined Lefkippos Technology Park, the largest technology park in Athens, hosted within the NCSR Demokritos campus.
The move placed us alongside other research-driven companies, labs and institutes, and gave us closer access to the academic community and the wider Greek innovation ecosystem.
Lefkippos has been our home base since, and a natural setting for a studio that operates so closely with public research.
Research2018
Joining European and national research projects.
up2metric becomes a partner in MindSpaces (EU, S+T+ARTS) and the national Virtual Diver, Travel Tycoon and SOUP projects.
2018 was the year up2metric stepped fully into collaborative R&D, joining four projects in parallel.
At the EU level, we joined MindSpaces within the S+T+ARTS programme, providing technological support to artistic installations by Refik Anadol & Analog Native, and Haseeb Ahmed. The work pushed our space-sensing, AI and 3D-vision capabilities.
Nationally, we joined Virtual Diver (underwater 3D and VR), Travel Tycoon (drone-based 3D and game pipelines for tourism), and SOUP (machine vision and robotics in greenhouses).
These projects established the breadth of domains we still work across today.
Products2017
Hidayath, our first mobile app.
Release of Hidayath, our mobile app for Visual Automation in Logistics, with on-device computer vision and cloud inventory sync.
Hidayath was the first mobile app released by up2metric, in 2017, just after the launch of our Otolift Rail Design system the year before.
The app applies computer vision to logistics: automatic asset counting against the customer's specific product catalogue, 3D measuring of steel products from camera input, and real-time synchronisation with the customer's cloud inventory database.
It set the template for our subsequent work in custom, tailor-made computer vision software, software that takes the messy reality of a specific operational environment and turns it into a reliable digital workflow.
