Founded in Athens in 2016, up2metric began as a research-driven team applying computer vision and computational geometry to real industrial problems, starting with a patented stair measurement system for stairlift design.

Today we operate at the intersection of AI, computer vision, XR and geoinformatics, co-creating tailored software with industry leaders, and turning mature R&D into licensable products.

From EU-funded research consortia to commercial deployments, we design systems that work in real conditions, not just in the lab.

The name / 02

Why up2metric?

3D · up to metric · transformations

Our name is a reference to Computer Vision theory, and specifically to multiple view geometry and the stratification of 3D reconstructions from uncalibrated cameras.

In the general case, such reconstructions are up to a projective ambiguity of 3D space. With additional information on the cameras or the scene, this ambiguity can be resolved, and the reconstruction becomes defined up to metric transformations, that is, Euclidean up to an unknown scale.

It is also a quiet nod to The Erlangen program, a method of characterizing geometries based on group theory, published by Felix Klein in 1872.
